Industry 4.0, which is currently being implemented in many manufacturing facilities, aims to increase productivity and efficiency by fully leveraging technologies such as IoT, AI, and big data. However, the challenge for Industry 5.0 is to move beyond the mass-production, mass-disposal economy that has existed to date.
This is why Industry 5.0 is also called the Sustainability Revolution. As Industry 4.0 progresses globally, the concepts of ESG and SDGs are spreading, and the social obligations of industry and individual companies are becoming more apparent. However, there are income and education gaps that continue to grow.
In Industry 4.0, it has become clear that there are still areas where humans need to intervene or where only humans can take responsibility. In the direction of Industry 5.0, it is becoming clear that humans will be responsible for these areas.
In other words, Industry 5.0 is moving toward the inseparable relationship between human-centric manufacturing and the realization of sustainable growth. Moreover, a company's efforts alone are not enough; collaboration with a wider range of stakeholders is required. It’s time to expand the organizational sense of wholeness we’ve been building to include a broader, universal human issue: sustainability.
